Day 01 - KOLKATA / OVERNIGHT TRAIN
After breakfast, take a full day excursion to Vishnupur (approx 4 hours) – capital of the Mallabhum dynasty in Bengal during the 8th to 19th centuries AD. Its ancient fortifications enclose numerous ornate temples made of brick, & covered with terracotta tiles – an artist’s delight! Vishnupur is famous for terracotta handicrafts, the most famous being the stylised “Bankura Horse”, Tussar silk, conchshell & bell metal wares. In the afternoon, drive back to Kolkata. Transfer to the railway station to connect the overnight train to Puri.
Day 02 - OVERNIGHT TRAIN / PURI
On arrival, transfer to the Hans Coco Palms Resort for check-in. After breakfast & freshening up, proceed to visit Chilika Lake – Asia’s biggest saltwater lagoon, separated by a narrow sandbar from the Bay of Bengal. Take a 4 hour boat ride to visit the Bird Sanctuary on Nalabana Island, and see migratory birds reaching the subcontinent from as far as Siberia & Iran. See also the famous Irrawaddy Dolphins. Overnight at the hotel at Puri.
Day 03 - PURI
After breakfast, visit with our guide the imposing Sun Temple at Konark, conceived as the cosmic chariot of the Sun God. Later proceed to see the artist’s village ofRaghurajpur, where the nine classical arts & crafts of India are still practiced today. Return to the hotel at Puri for overnight. |

Day 04 - PURI / BHUBANESHWAR
After breakfast, spend the morning relaxing on the beach, overlooking the Bay of Bengal. In the afternoon, drive to Bhubaneshwar visiting en route with our guideDhauli, the site of the battlefield where Ashok The Great fought the famous Kalinga war. Here we see the Ashok’s Edicts on a large rock and the Shanti Stupa on a nearby hill. On arrival at Bhubaneshwar, check in at Hotel Hindusthan International for overnight.
Day 05 - BHUBANESHWAR / OUT
After breakfast (or at an appropriate time), transfer to the airport to board your flight to Bangalore / Chennai / Delhi / Mumbai or Kolkata, in order to connect your subsequent flight home. |
